The Hon. Ashley Stewart is an associate judge for the 5th Judicial District Court of Iowa in Polk County. She was appointed to the bench by Kim Reynolds in 2024, filling the vacancy created by the Hon. Christopher Kemp.
The 5th Judicial District includes Adair, Adams, Clarke, Dallas, Decatur, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Marion, Polk, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Warren, and Wayne counties.
Stewart received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in 2003. She then completed a J.D. at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. Stewart was admitted to practice in Iowa in 2015.
She handled criminal defense matters in solo practice in San Diego, California (2009 to 2015), before relocating to Iowa, where she was a claims specialist at Nationwide Insurance (2015 to 2018) and an assistant appellate defender in Des Moines for the Appellate Defender’s Office of the State of Iowa (2018 to 2024).
Her memberships include the Iowa National Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Polk County Women Attorneys.
Stewart is married with two children.
