Biography

The Hon. Arthur M. Diamond is a Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the seat in 2004 and re-elected in 2017. While on the Supreme Court bench, Justice Diamond served as the supervising judge of guardianship matters beginning in 2016. Before becoming a Justice of the Supreme Court, he had previously served as a judge for the Nassau County Court from 1999 to 2000, after being appointed to the bench by former Governor George Pataki.

Diamond received his B.A. from Rutgers University in 1974. He went on to earn his J.D. from Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1978.

He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in 1979. By the end of his tenure there in 1986, Diamond was serving as deputy chief of its Trial Bureau.

Diamond entered into private practice in 1992, joining the law firm Fishkin and Pugach where he practiced criminal and personal injury law until 1999. While in private practice, Diamond also served as a village prosecutor for the Village of Manorhaven from 1994 to 1996.

Then, after his brief stint on the Nassau County Court bench, he joined Curran and Connors in 2000, where he served as senior vice president and general counsel until his election to the Supreme Court.

Justice Diamond has served as a lecturer on the subject of evidence for the Nassau County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, the New York State Judicial Institute, and the Hofstra University Continuing Legal Education Institute, just to name a few.

He has also written a column that appears regularly in the Nassau County Bar Association’s official publication. Among some of his other accomplishments, Justice Diamond served as co-editor of a 2013 revision of the Bench Book for Judges and in 2016 became a clinical instructor at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where he taught Law and Medicine for Medical Students.

His memberships have included the Judicial Advisory Council and the New York State Advisory Committee on Guardianship Matters.

He has also been a member of the Nassau County Bar Association.
