Biography

Hon. Anne McDonnell (Ret.) was a judge for the Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem County Superior Court (Vicinage 15) in New Jersey. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor James Florio in 1991 and reappointed for tenure in 1998. McDonnell reached the mandatory age of retirement in 2020.


Over the course of her judicial career, she held assignments in the Criminal Division, Family Division, Civil Division, and General Equity Division in Gloucester County. McDonnell also served as a presiding judge of the Family, Civil, and General Equity Divisions.


Prior to joining the bench, she had practiced as an attorney in the law firm of Hannold, Marshall, McDonnell & Becker (and its predecessor firms) since 1978. During that same time, McDonnell acted as a municipal court judge for Deptford (1980 to 1989), Greenwich (1982 to 1989), and Logan (1986 to 1988) Townships.


Before joining the firm, she worked briefly as an assistant prosecutor with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office (1977 to 1978).


McDonnell received a B.A. from Rutgers University in 1972. She went on to complete a J.D. at Rutgers Law School in 1975. McDonnell was admitted to practice in New Jersey (1975) and Pennsylvania (1977).


After graduating from law school, she joined Herman, Pearson, Dubier & Crass in 1975 and remained with the firm for two years.


McDonnell was a former treasurer for the Clients Security Fund of the Bar of New Jersey.
