The Hon. Andrew K. Carruthers is an associate judge for the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the 3rd Judicial Circuit on January 3, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Clarence W. Harrison.
The 3rd Judicial Circuit includes Madison County and Bond County.
Prior to his appointment, Carruthers was Chief of the Civil Division of the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, a position to which he was named in 2020. Before that, he spent time at HeplerBroom (Edwardsville) and Stobbs, Sinclair & Carruthers (Alton). Carruthers specialized in real estate transactions, municipal issues, business disputes, and election matters.
Carruthers earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Springfield in 2002. He then completed a J.D. at Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2006.
His memberships have included the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Born and raised in Godfrey, Illinois, Carruthers is the great nephew of the late Robert L. Butler, an attorney who was also the Mayor of Marion. His wife, Heidy, is a professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
He is registered as a Republican.
