The Hon. Andrew J. Zimmerman is a magistrate for the 5th Judicial District Court of Iowa in Adams County. He was appointed to the bench in 2017.
The 5th Judicial District includes Adair, Adams, Clarke, Dallas, Decatur, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Marion, Polk, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Warren, and Wayne counties.
Zimmerman received a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2006. He then completed a J.D. at Creighton University School of Law in 2012. While a law student, Zimmerman clerked for two years at Lamson Dugan & Murray in Omaha, Nebraska (2010 to 2012).
He began his legal career in private practice in Corning, Iowa, as a partner at Nielsen & Zimmerman, PLC, where he handled estate, trust and succession planning, real estate, probate, and tax planning for the next ten years. Zimmerman also spent time as the prosecutor for Adams County. Then, in 2022, he joined the Iowa State Savings Bank in Creston, working in their Trust Department as a trust officer and internal legal counsel.
Zimmerman served as an elected member of the Board of Governors of the Iowa State Bar Association and is a Fellow of the Iowa State Bar Foundation.
