The Hon. Andrew J. Wistrich (Ret.) is a former magistrate for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He was appointed to the bench in 1994. Wistrich retired on January 8, 2018.
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1972. Wistrich then completed a J.D. at the University of Chicago Law School in 1976.
He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Charles Clark with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Wistrich then entered private practice as an associate at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen in San Francisco in 1978. Then, in 1983, he joined Brown & Bain in Palo Alto, quickly becoming a partner in 1985. Wistrich remained with the firm until his call to the federal bench.
He has taught as an adjunct professor of law at Cornell Law School.
