The Hon. Andrew Howorth (Ret.) was a judge for the 3rd Circuit Court District of Mississippi. He was appointed to the bench in 2002. Howorth retired in 2020.
The 3rd Circuit includes Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Marshall, Tippah, and Union Counties.
During his judicial tenure, he presided as the Lafayette County Drug Court judge, which he founded in 2007. Prior to his appointment, Howorth handled civil litigation matters in private practice. During that time, he was a partner at Howorth, O’Donnell & Walsh and Hickman, Goza & Gore.
He received a B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1984. Howorth then completed a J.D. at the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was admitted to practice in Mississippi in 1987.
He served on the Mississippi Judicial College Board of Governors and was the presiding judge of the Mississippi Board of Complaints Tribunal. Howorth also served as a commissioner of The Mississippi Bar and is a past president of the Tri-County Bar Association and the Lafayette County Bar Association.
He was later appointed in 2018 by the Mississippi Supreme Court as a member of the State Drug Court Advisory Committee. In addition, Howorth was involved with the Oxford-Lafayette County United Way (past president), the Oxford University Bank (former director), the Oxford Housing Authority (former commissioner), and the Oxford Rotary Club.
He was named the 48th Citizen of the Year by the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce in 2019 and was selected as a Fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation.
Howorth and his wife, Elizabeth, have a blended family of six children.
