The Hon. Andrew C. Butler is a judge for the 9th Judicial District Court of Nebraska. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pete Ricketts on June 20, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Teresa K. Luther.
The 9th Judicial District encompasses Buffalo County and Hall County. Over the course of his judicial career, Butler was invited to sit with the Nebraska Supreme Court on November 4, 2022. He heard arguments in the case of Bohac v. Benes Service Co. (S-22-0235).
Butler earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Hastings College in 2007. He then completed a J.D. at Creighton University School of Law in 2010. As a law student, he clerked at the Lee Law Offices in Omaha (2009 to 2010).
After graduating from law school, Butler began his legal career as an associate at Butler, Voigt & Stewart in Kearney. He remained with the firm for less than a year, quickly leaving to become a deputy county attorney for the Adams County Attorney’s Office. As a deputy county attorney, Butler handled a variety of criminal matters, including felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile cases, and traffic infractions.
His memberships have included the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Nebraska District Judges Association, and the Hall County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Hastings Noon Sertoma Service Club and the TeamMates Mentoring Program, and he has served on the Board of Directors of the Hastings Literacy Program, the Southern Hills Realty Company, the Spouse Abuse Sexual Assault Crisis Center, and Hastings Area Ducks Unlimited.
Raised in Kearney, Nebraska, Butler attended Kearney Catholic High School. He was a resident of Hastings, Nebraska, at the time of his appointment.
