The Hon. Alexander K. McVeagh is a judge for the Hamilton County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Bill Haslam on April 12, 2017, filling a vacancy created by the temporary resignation of the Hon. David Bales.
Over the course of his judicial career, McVeagh has held assignments on the Hamilton County Misdemeanor Drug Recovery Court.
Prior to his appointment, McVeagh was an associate at Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel in Chattanooga, a law firm he joined in 2013. During his tenure there, he represented clients in both state and federal courts throughout Tennessee and Georgia. McVeagh supplemented his practice with service as an assistant city attorney for the City of East Ridge.
McVeagh earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Vanderbilt University in 2008. He then completed a J.D. at Vanderbilt Law School in 2013. He is licensed to practice in Tennessee (2013) and Georgia (2014).
His memberships have included the Downtown Chattanooga Rotary Club and the Brock-Cooper American Inn of Court. He has also been involved with the Board of the Legal Aid of East Tennessee and the Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission.
He is a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Chattanooga Bar Association.
When not presiding over legal proceedings, McVeagh enjoys spending time with friends and family on the trails and rivers of Hamilton County.
He is registered as a Republican.
