The Hon. Adriane R. Marblestein-Deare is a magistrate for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She was appointed to the bench by Chief Judge Anita M. Josey-Herring on August 15, 2022.
Prior to her appointment, Marblestein-Deare was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, a law firm she opened fifteen years ago. She handled family law, education, juvenile delinquency, and probate matters. Before that, she represented the executive agencies in labor-management matters for the Executive Office of the Mayor of the District of Columbia.
Marblestein-Deare earned a bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Vincent University in 1994. She then completed a J.D. at Howard University School of Law in 1999. She is licensed to practice in Maryland (1999) and the District of Columbia (2000).
After graduating from law school, Marblestein-Deare was awarded the Covington & Burlington Public Interest Fellowship, which allowed her to serve as a staff attorney with the Neighborhood Legal Services Program. In that capacity, she represented low-income and indigent residents in family, civil, and landlord-tenant matters.
Her memberships have included the Neglect and Delinquency Practice Institute. She is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Family Court Trial Lawyers Association (2019).
Born in British Guyana, Marblestein-Deare was raised in Canada. She worked in community and human services administration in Toronto, serving as a program manager and adjudicator for the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission. She also attended the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Training Depot in Saskatchewan. As such, she holds the distinction of being the second Black female officer in the RCMP.
