Judge Jason Bloch: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Jason Bloch (Ret.) was a judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2014, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Darrin P. Gayles to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Block was unsuccessful in his bid for re-election in 2016 and returned to private practice as a pro bono attorney.

During his tenure on the bench, he held assignments in the Civil and Criminal Divisions.

Block earned a B.S. in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley in 1989. He then completed a J.D. at Georgetown Law School in 1994. While attending law school, Bloch interned with the Hon. Mark Polen and the Hon. Bobby Gunther at the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach. He also worked as a summer associate at Mershon, Sawyer, Johnston, Dunwody, and Cole as well as the Miami-Dade County Attorney's Office.

After graduating from law school, Bloch would spend the bulk of his legal career working as an assistant county attorney with the Miami-Dade County Attorney's Office. During his tenure there, his areas of practice included torts and civil rights defense, public housing, eminent domain, real estate, and construction and commercial litigation. He also served as in-house counsel to the Public Health Trust and as a legal advisor to the Medical Examiner Department.

He has been a member of the American Jewish Committee of Miami and Broward.
