Judge W. Brent Basden - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. W. Brent Basden is a judge for the Clallam County Superior Court in Washington. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jay Inslee in 2018 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Christopher Melly (Ret.).

During his judicial tenure, Basden was named presiding judge of the Clallam County Superior Court in 2020.

At the time of his appointment, Basden presided in the Family Court as a commissioner for the Clallam County Superior Court. He was appointed to the position by the Superior Court judges in 2008.

Basden received a B.A. in communications from Brigham Young University in 1991. He then completed a J.D. at Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1994, where he was managing editor of the Law Review during his final year.

After law school, Basden began his legal career as a partner at Basden & Hansen, PLLC, handling an array of family, criminal, and civil law matters until his appointment to the Superior Court.

He sat on the board of the Clallam County Pro Bono Lawyers Association and was a past president of the Clallam County Bar Association.

His civic involvement has included coaching for Cal Ripken Baseball and working for several years with a local Boy Scout Troop. Basden is also actively involved with his church and served as a stake president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was raised in Clallam County and graduated from Port Angeles High School. Basden and his wife, Charline, have seven children.
