Judge Victor I. Barron: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

NY Bar #: 1294958 (12/16/1966)

Biography

Hon. Victor I. Barron (Ret.) was a justice of the Kings County Supreme Court in the Second Judicial District of New York. Barron was elected to the Supreme Court in 1998 and served on the bench for fourteen years.

He completed a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School.

Barron left the bench after he was indicted on bribery charges in January 2002 and was later sentenced to a term of three to nine years in prison in October of that same year. He incurred the charges after admitting to accepting an $18,000 bribe from a Manhattan attorney who was wearing a wire at the time. Barron had allegedly approached the attorney for a $250,000 bribe in regards to a $4.9 million settlement the attorney was negotiating for his client. The $18,000 was intended to be an installment on the full amount, to be paid after Barron approved the settlement. The attorney immediately alerted the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office for help after the bribe was solicited by the judge.

Barron was ultimately released from prison for good behavior after serving twenty-three months. After his release, he transitioned to a halfway house in Manhattan and took a job in a women’s clothing store in Brooklyn.

Barron was raised in Sheepshead Bay. At the time of his arrest, he resided in Marine Park with his wife.
