Judge Rebecca D. Guptill - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Rebecca D. Guptill is a judge for the 20th Judicial District Circuit Court in Oregon. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown in 2019.

The 20th Judicial District encompasses Washington County. Guptill began her judicial career as a judge pro tem for the Washington County Circuit Court.

Prior to her appointment, Guptill was an associate at Harris Velazquez Gibbens (formerly the Harris Law Firm), a position to which she was named in 2012. Before that, she spent time as a senior associate at the Hillsboro Law Group (2008 to 2012). Guptill specialized in criminal defense, family law, business law, and juvenile law matters. She also represented employers in workers' compensation, OSHA, and employment cases.

Guptill earned a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of Southern California in 2002. She then completed a J.D. at Willamette University College of Law in 2005. As a law student, she clerked at Lindauer Fetherson Edmonds Lippold & Collier (2003 to 2004) and the Law Office of Carl D. Crowell (2004 to 2005).

After graduating from law school, Guptill entered into private practice at Ridehalgh & Associates. She worked in that capacity until 2007, at which time she joined Cummins Goodman Fish Denley & Vickers.

Raised in Lincoln County, Oregon, Guptill attended Adams Elementary School, Waldport Elementary School, Waldport Middle School, and Waldport High School. She and her husband have a dog named Jack. When not presiding over legal proceedings, she enjoys cooking, kayaking, photography, traveling, reading, fishing, and crabbing.
