Judge Ralph J. Porzio - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Ralph J. Porzio is a justice for the Richmond County Supreme Court in the Thirteenth Judicial District of New York. Before his election to the bench in 2019, Porzio served as a judge for the Queens County Family Court for ten years, a position to which he was appointed by former Mayor Rudy Giuliana in 1996.

Porzio earned a B.S. from St. John’s University in 1980. He then continued his studies at St. John’s University School of Law, where he completed a J.D. in 1984.

Over the course of his legal career, Porzio worked as an attorney in private practice, counsel to the New York State Senator Andrew Lanza, and an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Richmond County.

He has taught as a professor of legal studies and business law at the City University of New York and legal studies at St. John’s University School of Law.

Porzio was raised in Staten Island, New York.

He is registered as a Republican.
