Biography

The Hon. Myrna M. Socorro is a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Bronx County. She was designated to the bench by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks in 2017, shortly after her election to the Civil Court of the City of New York in Bronx County that same year.

Socorro earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College. While pursuing her studies, she began working as a part-time typist at the Law Firm of Ernest Codelia, Esq. She continued to work there after graduation, at which time she became its office manager and paralegal. She worked in that capacity for over a decade. Then, in 2002, Socorro completed a J.D. at Pace University School of Law.

After finishing law school, Codelia appointed Socorro as a named partner at his firm in 2004. Five years later, she became the sole proprietor and principal managing attorney of the firm. In 2016, just prior to her election to the bench, Socorro became the managing attorney at Socorro & Associates. Over the course of her legal career, Socorro specialized in providing services as a Guardian or Guardian Ad Litem and as a Court Evaluator within Article 17-A or Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law.

Her memberships have included the Bronx County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, the American Bar Association, the Puerto Rican Bar Association of the State of New York, and the Latino Judges Bar Association.
