Judge Martin G. Zilber - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Martin G. Zilber (Ret.) served as a judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. Zilber was elected to the bench in 2014. He retired on May 14, 2021, and returned to private practice as a partner at Krinzman Huss Lubetsky Feldman & Hotte.

Over the course of his judicial career, Zilber held assignments in the Juvenile Dependency, Criminal, and Civil Divisions. He also presided on the Unified Family Court. On April 8, 2021, the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission recommended that Zilber receive a 60-day suspension and a $30,000 fine for unauthorized absences and mistreatment of his staff.

Zilber earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida in 1984. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1988. While attending law school, he served as an intern for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.

After graduating from law school, Zilber began his legal career as corporate counsel for Metro Transportation Services. He worked in that capacity until 1995, at which time he co-founded Stolzenberg, Gelles & Zilber. Zilber supplemented his private practice with service as Vice President of Corporate Development, Mergers, and Acquisitions for Coach USA (1997 to 2000), general counsel for Avatar Real Estate Services (2001 to 2006), general counsel for Lansdowne Mortgage (2006 to 2011), and a traffic magistrate for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida (2010 to 2013).

He taught political science and history as an adjunct professor at Miami-Dade College.

Zilber was born in Miami, Florida, and is an active member of the community. He has served as a member of the Miami-Dade County Arts Board, the Cultural Arts Council of Miami-Dade County, the Board of Trustees of Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Coconut Grove Village Council. He and his wife, Cindi, have one son and one daughter.
