Judge Laura Anne Stuzin: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Laura Anne Stuzin is a judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. She was appointed to the Circuit Court by former Governor Rick Scott in 2017.

During her judicial tenure, Stuzin presided in both the Civil and Criminal Divisions. Prior to her appointment to the Circuit Court bench, she served as a judge for the Miami-Dade County Court since receiving an appointment from then-Governor Scott in 2015.

Stuzin earned a B.A. in political science and government from the University of Michigan in 1991. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1994.

Stuzin began her legal career as an assistant state attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. She remained a prosecutor there for four years. Then, in 1998, Stuzin left the public sector to enter into private practice, joining the law firm Coffey, Diaz & O'Naghten LLP. The following year, she became of counsel at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, where she practiced insurance defense litigation, premises liability, and criminal defense until her appointment to the County Court in 2015.

Her memberships have included the Dade County Bar Association, the Miami Beach Bar Association, the Coral Gables Bar Association, the Cuban American Bar Association, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, and the Gwen S. Cherry, Black Women Lawyers Association.

Stuzin is married to Daniel Bernstein, who works as a federal prosecutor.
