Judge John J. Ark - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. John J. Ark is a Justice of the Monroe County Supreme Court in the Seventh Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1994 and has maintained his post in subsequent elections. While on the Supreme Court, Justice Ark served as the Supervising Judge of the Matrimonial Part in the Seventh Judicial District, where he oversaw the disposition of thousands of divorces.

He is a registered Republican.

Justice Ark received his B.A. from Bucknell University in 1967. He then graduated with his M.B.A. from Syracuse University in 1971. He went on to earn his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 1973.

Ark’s legal career includes a stint with the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. He also served as a justice of the Brighton Town Court for fourteen years. Prior to his election to the Supreme Court, Ark had served in private practice at his own law firm.

His judicial committees have included serving on the New York State Commission on Drugs and the Courts and serving as chair of the Monroe County Jury Board.
