Judge Jack M. Battaglia - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jack M. Battaglia (Ret.) was a justice for the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 2007 and retired from its bench in 2020.

Previously, he served as a judge for the Kings County Civil Court after being elected to the seat in 2001. He remained on the Civil Court until his election to the Supreme Court bench.

Battaglia received a B.A. from Fordham University in 1968. He went on to earn a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1971.

He began his legal career working as a staff attorney for Columbia University’s Legislative Drafting Research Fund (1971 to 1973). Battaglia then joined the law firm of Greenbaum, Wolff & Ernst in 1973, where he practiced as an associate, until being named a partner in 1980.

He left the firm in 1982 and began teaching as an associate professor of law at Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, remaining in that capacity until returning to private practice in 1984. Battaglia would later join the Pilkington Visioncare/Revlon Vision Care Group as senior counsel in 1986 and would also serve another stint in private practice from 1989 to 1992.

Battaglia eventually returned to his teaching position at the Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1992 and remained there until 2000.
