Judge Jack L. Libert - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jack L. Libert is a Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2016.

He received his B.A. from Hofstra University in 1971. Libert went on to earn a J.D. from Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1974.

Libert was the founding partner of D’Amato, Forchelli, Libert, Schwartz, and Mineo, where his areas of practice included real estate transactions, zoning, land use planning, and wills and estates. He left the firm to pursue positions in both private industry and local government.

In 1978, he became counsel to the Nassau County Board of Supervisors, a position he held until 1984. In 1987, Libert was elected to serve as trustee of the Incorporated Village of Woodsburgh and two years later was then elected its mayor.

In 1992, he became general counsel for Benjamin Development Company, where, during his ten-year tenure, would be named CEO of its Real Estate Division. He remained in that capacity until 2002. In addition to his work at Benjamin Development Company, Libert also served as deputy village attorney for the Incorporated Village of Lynbrook.

Eventually, Libert returned to the private arena, rejoining the law firm Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Terrana LLP (formerly D’Amato, Forchelli, Libert, Schwartz, and Mineo) as counsel in 2010 and then partner in 2012.

Libert was also on the Board of Zoning Appeals and served as commissioner of Planning and Development for the Department of Public Works for the Town of Oyster Bay.
