Judge Emilio L. Colaiacovo - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Emilio L. Colaiacovo is a Justice of the Erie County Supreme Court in the Eighth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2016.

He is a registered Republican.

Justice Colaiacovo graduated with honors with his B.A. from Mercyhurst College in 1998. He went on to earn his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School in 2001.

Colaiacovo began his legal career as an associate at Bouvier Partnership LLP in 2002. He remained at Bouvier, where he had been named a partner, until his election to the Supreme Court. His areas of practice included matrimonial and family law.

During his time in private practice, Colaiacovo also served as associate counsel of the Erie County Water Authority.

His memberships have included the Women Lawyers of Western New York, the New York State Committee on Judicial Ethics, the Western New York Italian Federation, and the Eighth Judicial District Supreme Court Judges Association.

Justice Colaiacovo has also served as a member of the Boy Scouts of America Greater Niagara Frontier Council and the Amherst Youth Hockey.
