Biography

The Hon. David B. Atkins is an Associate Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. He was first appointed to the bench in 2003. He was subsequently re-appointed in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Judge Atkins is assigned to the Chancery Division in Chicago.

Atkins earned a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1969 and completed his J.D. at the University of Illinois College of Law in 1972. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1980.

Atkins worked as an attorney in private practice, specializing in state and federal civil matters. He also served as a supervisor for the City of Chicago Law Department, as well as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Cook County State Attorney’s Office and an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Office of the U.S. Attorney. Prior to his appointment, he served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender.
