Judge Allison Bell Royer: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Allison Bell Royer is a judge for the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. She was elected to the bench on November 3, 2015.

Over the course of her judicial career, Royer has presided over criminal, family, and juvenile matters. She has also held assignments as the Supervising Judge of the Collections Court and for offenders subject to SAVE supervision.

Royer earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the College of William and Mary in 1989. She then completed a J.D. at Widener University Delaware Law School (1992) and an LL.M. in taxation at Villanova University, Charles Widger School of Law (2008). As a law student, Royer obtained a clerkship with the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting hundreds of cases at the Magisterial District Court.

After graduating from law school, Royer began her legal career as an attorney in private practice with her father and her grandfather, where she handled civil, criminal, family law, and orphans court matters. She also served two terms as the Prothonotary of Chester County (1995 to 2004).

Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Chester County Bar Association, and the Chester County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She has also volunteered for Access to Justice and the Wills for Heroes Program.

Royer was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Nottingham, Pennsylvania. Her parents met while they were serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. When not presiding over legal matters, she coaches basketball teams in the YMCA Youth Basketball Program, the West Chester Lightning League, and the Malvern League. She is an avid Philadelphia sports fan and lives in West Goshen Township with her husband, chocolate lab, and rescue cat.
