Judge Aaron B. Mason: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Hon. Aaron B. Mason is a judge for the Clayton County Superior Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Nathan Deal on December 19, 2016, to fill a new position created by House Bill 804.

At the time of his appointment, Mason was presiding as a judge for the Clayton County State Court, a position to which he was appointed by former Governor Sonny Perdue in 2010.

Before beginning his judicial career, he was a senior assistant attorney general for the Georgia Attorney General’s Office. During his tenure there, Mason primarily served in the Civil Rights Division, where he was tasked with defending state officials, prison employees, and troopers accused of constitutional violations. He also handled environmental litigation matters, defending the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Natural Resources from lawsuits and permit challenges.

Mason received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Kentucky. He went on to complete a J.D. at Emory University School of Law.

At the time of his appointment, Mason resided in Jonesboro with his wife and two children.
