The Hon. Janis Halker Simpson (Ret.) served as a judge for the Orange County Court in Florida. Simpson was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bob Graham in 1979. She retired in 2005 and continued to serve as a senior judge.
Simpson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1973. Simpson has also received a master's degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University in New Orleans and a master's degree in counseling from Rollins College.
She is a recipient of the Gary L. Formet, Sr. Award of Judicial Excellence from the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Simpson was born in Ohio. Licensed in Florida as mental health counselor and marriage and family therapist, Simpson has continued to work in her retirement as a mediator and parenting coordinator for the 9th Judicial Circuit Court.
