Background
On March 24, 2017, Plaintiff Essex & Palomino, LLC (“Essex”) filed an unlawful detainer complaint against Defendant Eric Cantley (“Cantley”) for the property located at 1518 Paloma St., #202, Los Angeles, CA 90021 (the “Property”) (Case No. 17U03166). Possession of the property is no longer at issue in this matter. Essex served Cantley with a three-day notice to pay rent or quit dated March 10, 2017. On September 1, 2017, Cantley filed a Cross-Complaint against Essex alleging various habitability claims, tort claims, and statutory violations. Subsequently, Essex filed separate unlawful detainer actions against Defendants Ramon Mergner (Case No. 17U031167), Dirk Frederik Knibbe (Case No. 17U03171), Mandi Holmes and Michael Holmes (Case No. 17U03234), Skip Arnold and Olivia Prime (Case No. 17U03235), and Christopher Beam (Case No. 17U03236). These matters concern different units of the same property, including unit
