1. Overview and Procedural Posture.

This is a personal injury case arising out of a motor vehicle accident on August 28, 2018 on Interstate 5 in San Diego. The complaint was filed in early 2019. Defendants answered separately through the same counsel in February and April 2019. ROA 10, 11. Plaintiff's counsel failed to appear at the initial CMC, leading to delay. ROA 13-16. Ultimately, the case was set for trial in May 2020. Counsel have sought further delay (ROA 26, 29); due to the crushing backlog arising from the court closure resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the case is presently set for trial on November 20, 2020. ROA 27. On June 18, 2020, counsel for defendant scheduled a motion to be relieved as counsel. ROA 30. However, no moving papers have been filed.
