Biography

The Hon. Yolanda Orozco is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in December of 2010 by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Orozco received her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1976. She went on to earn her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1979.

After graduating from law school, Orozco became a trial attorney for the Department of Justice in 1979. In 1981 she joined the Federal Public Defender's Office as a deputy federal public defender. After two years with the Federal P.D.'s office, Orozco practiced as an associate for the law firms of Overland, Berke, Wesley, Gits, Randolph, and Levanas from 1985 to 1986 and Finley, Kumble, Wagner, Heine, Underberg, Manley, Myerson, and Casey from 1986 to 1987. Then in 1988, Orozco joined the Santa Monica law firm of O’Neill, Lysaght, and Sun, LLP, first as an associate, and then later she was named a partner. She remained with the firm for 15 years until leaving in 2003. In 2004 Orozco became a partner for the law firm Liner, Grode, Stein, Yankelevitz, Sunshine, Regenstreif, and Taylor. She would then join the Los Angeles law office of Jones Day as a partner in 2005, where she practiced complex business and commercial litigation. Orozco remained with the firm until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2010.

In 2009 Orozco was named a top woman litigator for California. She was also appointed to serve on Sen. Dianne Feinstein's Committee to screen potential applicants for the federal district court.

Judge Orozco has been a champion for diversity in the judicial system. She has spoken on the subject for the USC Gould School of Law and has also served as a member of the California Latino Judges Association's Judicial Appointment Committee.

Her memberships have included the Western Center on Law and Poverty and the Federal Bar Association.
