The Hon. William Q. Liebmann is a judge for the Ventura County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2003 by former governor Gray Davis. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Melinda Johnson (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Southern California School of Law in 1975.
During law school, Liebmann completed an externship with Associate Justice Robert Thompson and also clerked for the appellate bench. After he graduated from law school, Liebmann began his career in private practice. After working as an associate at a San Pedro law firm, he joined Taylor, Churchman, and Lingl in Camarillo, California in 1979. He would later partner at Liebmann and Dunlevy in 1983 and would then enter into solo practice. During his time in private practice, Liebmann specialized in family law, estate planning, civil litigation, and probate matters.
Liebmann also served as a Camarillo City Councilman for ten years and was selected by fellow council members to serve as the city's mayor in 2000.
He was elected to serve as a court commissioner for the Ventura County Superior Court in early 2003 and was subsequently appointed to the bench 45 days later.
During his time on the bench, Judge Liebmann served as the supervising family law judge.
Judge Liebman, who has been described as patient, efficient and prompt, expects appearing counsel to be prepared, able to think on their feet, and also able to cite case law if necessary.
He was named a Distinguished Judicial Officer in 2015 by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Southern California Chapter.
Judge Liebmann, who hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin, enjoys camping, fishing, and hiking.
