In 1999, former governor Gray Davis appointed Hon. Verna Alana Adams as a judge for the Superior Court of Marin County in California.
She "saw the need for other specialty courts that could address the needs of our most underserved populations in Marin. I formed and served as the first judge presiding over Mental Health Court and Domestic Violence Court." The judge's "passion is to make our justice system accessible to the most disenfranchised members of our community: children, women, victims of domestic violence."
The judge won't tolerate disrespect for the court.
She graduated summa cum laude from Wesleyan and went on to Stanford Law School in 1970.
Adams spent 28 years in private practice as a domestic-relations attorney in San Rafael.
