Biography

The Hon. Thomas E. Stevens of Piedmont, has served as chief at the Oakland Branch of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of California since 2013, where he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Economic Crimes and Securities Fraud Section from 2008 to 2013. Stevens served as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division Fraud Section from 2004 to 2008 and was counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP from 2002 to 2004, where he was an associate from 1997 to 2002. He served as a deputy district attorney at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office from 1995 to 1997 and was a law clerk for the Honorable Edward D. Price at the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California from 1994 to 1995. Stevens earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Marshall I. Whitley. Stevens is registered without party preference.
