Blizzard graduated with his M.A. in literature from Claremont Graduate School in 1979 and with his LL.M. in international law in 1980. He also worked as an associate at the Law Offices of Stuart Jackson in New York from 1983 to 1986, and for Greenberg, Cantor, and Reiss for one year in 1986. Blizzard would then move back to California in 1987, where he joined the Sacramento law firm of Weintraub Genshlea Chediak. He would become a shareholder at the firm in 1990, a position he would hold until his appointment to the Superior Court ten years later. During his time in private practice, Blizzard specialized in business and federal litigation, arbitration, and legal malpractice cases.
