Biography

The Hon. Susanne M. Fenstermacher is a judge on the Superior Court of Contra Costa County, California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005. She was then elected to the bench in 2008 and automatically re-elected in 2014.

Judge Fenstermacher earned her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.

Since 1971 Fenstermacher was an attorney with O.F. Fenstermacher Professional Corp. her family's firm, where she specialized in family law. She also served as an arbitrator regarding civil cases and in 1992, she was made the chairperson of the Contra Costa County Bar Association Fee Arbitration Panel. She was also the President of the Contra Costa County Bar Association in 1992.

In 1985 Judge Fenstermacher was elected the first female President of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Contra Costa Barrister Association and was on the Board of Trustees for the Contra Costa Legal Services Foundation. Fenstermacher has also participated in numerous panels for Family Law Seminars.

An interesting coincidence is that her father, the Hon. Oliver Fenstermacher, presided over the same department during the 1960s that she was assigned to as a judge herself.

In regards to her outlook on work as a judge Fenstermacher says, "[i]t is exciting... I just look forward to coming to work every day."
