The Hon. Steven K. Austin is a judge of Contra Costa County, California Superior Court. He was appointed by former California Governor Pete Wilson in 1998.
Judge Austin earned a B.A. in Communications from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1978. He later, in 1981, received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Austin was in private practice for 17 years starting as an associate at Cole & Scott then as a partner at the firm of Buresh, Kaplan, Feller & Chang.
He has served on the Board of Directors of Protection Advocacy Inc. and the California State Mental Health Planning Council. He is also a member of the Veterans Courts Working Group of the Administrative Office of the Courts and the California Commission on Access to Justice. He also serves as faculty for numerous judicial education programs.
He is a Republican.
