The Hon. Stanley Blumenfeld is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench on June 20, 2006, by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John Sandoz (Ret.).
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Blumenfeld graduated with his B.A. in Spanish and classical civilization from the State University of New York at Birmingham in 1984. While in college, he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then received his M.A. in Spanish from New York University in 1985. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1988. While at UCLA, Blumenfeld was a member of the Order of the Coif honor society and also served as editor-in-chief of the UCLA Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Blumenfeld became a clerk for the Hon. Cynthia Holcomb Hall, a former Circuit Judge with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. In 1989 he became an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
He served as a U.S. attorney until 1993 when he became a partner at the law firm of O'Melveney and Myers. While there, Blumenfeld served as co-chair for the firm's healthcare and environmental groups. He remained with the firm until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2006.
During his time on the bench, Judge Blumenfeld presided over the Felony Trial Court where he served as the assistant supervising judge for the Northeast and Central Districts.
He has taught constitutional criminal procedure and remedies as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law.
In October of 2018, President Donald J. Trump nominated Judge Blumenfeld for a position on the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. It was rejected in the Senate on January 3, 2019, and President Trump renominated him on January 30, 2019. If approved, Blumenfeld would fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Audrey B. Collins (Ret.).
