Biography

The Hon. Socrates Peter Manoukian is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Pete Wilson on February 25, 1993.

Manoukian earned a B.A. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then received a J.D. from Southwestern University Law School in 1977.

He began his legal career in 1978. He first worked as an associate at Maslach, Leavey & Nutt. Then, in 1983, he joined the Law Offices of Burton K. Wines. He worked there for two years before advancing to partner at Wines & Manoukian. During his tenure as a practicing lawyer, he specialized in civil litigation, emphasizing medical malpractice and insurance cases.

Manoukian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, eventually becoming a citizen of the United States in 1963. He is married to the Hon. Patricia Bamattre-Manoukian, Associate Justice of the California Sixth District Court of Appeals.

He is registered as a Republican.
