Biography

The Hon. Sherilyn P. Garnett is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2014.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Garnett received her B.A. from the University of California, Riverside. She went on to earn her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1995.

After graduating from law school, Garnett joined the law firm of Altheimer and Gray in 1995 as an associate. She practiced with the firm for three years before beginning a clerkship in 1998 for the Hon. Barry T. Moskowitz with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. In 1999 she became an associate for the law firm of Arnold and Porter, LLP where she practiced for one year. In 2001 Garnett joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California where she served as an assistant U.S. Attorney. She was serving as chief of the General Crimes Section for the U.S. Attorney's Office at the time of her appointment to the Superior Court in 2014.
