Biography

The Hon. Shereen J. Charlick is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. She was appointed by former governor Jerry Brown on October 26, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Kerry Wells.

Charlick earned a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied law and society as well as economics. She then received a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Charlick began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. William Zloch of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Then, in 1991, she joined the United States Department of Justice Honors Program, where she worked as a trial attorney for the next three years. Charlick then served as a deputy public defender for the Office of the Federal Public Defender of the Southern District of Florida. After relocating to southern California in 1998, Charlick began working as a deputy public defender in the Office of the Public Defender of Los Angeles County.

She left the public sector the following year and briefly worked as an associate at the Law Office of Tarlow and Berk. She joined the Federal Defenders of San Diego in 1999, where she worked as a supervisory attorney and a trial team leader. During her tenure there, she left briefly to return to the Office of the Federal Public Defender of the Southern District of Florida as a supervisory assistant. When she returned to the Federal Defenders of San Diego in 2005, she served as its chief trial attorney for the next thirteen years, eventually becoming its executive director.

Charlick is registered as a Democrat.
