Biography

The Hon. Shelyna V. Brown is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. She was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2011, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Eugene M. Hyman.

Brown earned a B.A. from the University of California, Davis. She then received a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1996.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Brown served in the Office of the Public Defender of Santa Clara County from 1997 to 2011.

Brown was a recipient of the Trial Attorney of the Year Award from the Office of the Public Defender of Santa Clara County as well as the Distinguished Women of Silicon Valley Award by the Ivy Rose Community Foundation. She has also received a Congressional Commendation from Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren for her work and commitment to her community.

She is registered as a Democrat.
