Biography

The Hon. Sean D. Coen is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was elected to the bench in 2012.

Judge Coen graduated with his B.A. in English from the University of Oregon in 1996. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1999.

Coen began a clerkship for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in 1999. In 2000, Coen was hired as a deputy district attorney. He would remain with the D.A.'s office, where he was assigned to the Hardcore Gang Unit, until winning the election to the Superior Court in 2012. While at the D.A.'s office, Coen helped prosecute over 100 trial cases, ranging from murder, rape, kidnapping, domestic violence, and child molestation.

Judge Coen followed in his father's footsteps along the path of his legal career. His father, the Hon. Ronald S. Coen started his career as a deputy district attorney and was also appointed to serve as a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge.

Coen's wife, Lisa Coen, was working as a deputy district attorney at the time of his election to the Superior Court.
