The Hon. Scott M. Gordon is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010.
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Gordon graduated with his B.S. in public administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1980. He went on to earn his J.D. from Southwestern Law School in 1985. Gordon worked as a Santa Monica police officer while attending law school.
He joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney after law school in 1985. During his time as a prosecutor for the D.A.'s office, Gordon served on the Central Trials Unit. In 1997 he was one of three prosecutors from the United States chosen to go to The Hague in the Netherlands to serve on the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal as a legal specialist.
After 16 years with the D.A.'s office, Judge Gordon was elected to the Los Angeles County Superior Court as a court commissioner in 2002. He remained in that position until his appointment to the bench in 2010.
Gordon has taught as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School and Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. His alma mater, Southwestern Law School honored him in 2003 with their Adjunct Professor Excellence in Teaching Award and their 2008 Outstanding Judicial Officer Award.
He has also been a contributor to the Continuing Education of the Bar legal guide on the subject of hearsay.
During his time on the Superior Court, he has served as an assistant supervising judge for the Criminal Division and a supervising judge for the Family Law Division.
Some of his awards have included the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women, the Prosecutor of the Year from the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the 2011 Family Law Judicial Officers of the Year Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
