Biography

The Hon. Ronald Evans Quidachay (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed to the Municipal Court of San Francisco by the former governor Jerry Brown in 1983. Then, in 1998, he was elevated to the Superior Court after the unification of superior and municipal courts.

Quidachay received a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in 1970. As an undergraduate student, he co-founded the Pilipino American Collegiate Endeavor, a student organization advocating for the creation of a college of ethnic studies. Quidachay continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a J.D. in 1973.

He began his legal career as a staff attorney with the San Francisco Neighborhood Legal Assistance Foundation, where he handled cases on behalf of tenants. Then, in 1977, he joined the Office of the District Attorney of San Francisco as a deputy district attorney. Three years later he worked briefly as a named partner at Lenvin, Gesmer and Quidachay.

Quidachay joined the Municipal Court of San Francisco County as a traffic referee in 1981. He held this position until his appointment to the bench in 1983.

Quidachay was the first Filipino-American appointed to the bench in Northern California. He retired on June 27, 2018, as the longest-serving judge of the Superior Court of San Francisco County.

Quidachay was a founding member of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California. He also served as president of the California Asian Pacific Islanders Judges Association.

Quidachay was born in San Francisco, California in 1947. When he was three years old, he moved with his mother to Guam. He eventually returned to San Francisco in 1964 in order to attend college.
