The Hon. Richard L. Seabolt is a judge for the Alameda County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2018 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alice Vilardi (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Seabolt graduated with his B.G.S. in political science and economics from the University of Michigan in 1971. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1975.
After law school, Seabolt joined Hancock, Rothert, and Bunshoft LLP as an associate in 1975. During his thirty-year tenure there, Seabolt served as a partner at the firm from 1982 to 2005. He then joined Duane Morris LLP, where he served as a partner and co-head of the Commercial Securities and Antitrust Litigation Division for the firms Trial Group. During his twelve years with the firm, Seabolt specialized in litigating commercial disputes involving the insurance, construction, and technology industries. He remained with the firm until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2018.
While on the bench, Judge Seabolt has presided over a family law calendar at the Hayward Hall of Justice.
His memberships have included past-president of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Arbitration Association, the State Bar of California, and the California Judicial Council's Advisory Committee on Civil Jury Instructions.
