Biography

The Hon. Richard E. L. Strauss is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Pete Wilson on October 12, 1995, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alpha Montgomery.

Strauss attended Stanford University, where he earned a B.S. in 1963 and an M.S. in 1964. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1968.

He began his legal career as assistant corporate counsel for Travelodge International, Inc. in 1970.

Then, in 1972, he joined the Office of the United States Attorney as an assistant U.S. Attorney. He held that position for four years, eventually leaving to serve as president of Strauss, Kissane & Cook.

Strauss spends his free time golfing.
