Biography

The Hon. Paul R. Bernal is a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Clara County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis in 2000.

He earned a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 1984. He then completed a J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1987.

Bernal began his legal career as an associate with Bodkin, McCarthy, Sargent & Smith in 1986. The following year, he joined Littler Mendelson as an employment law specialist.

Then, in 1989, he settled into a position with the Office of the District Attorney of Santa Clara County, where he served as a deputy district attorney until 2000.
