Biography

Nancy L. Davis was a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco in California. She retired from the court in September 2017.

The summer after her freshman year of college, she went to Mississippi, where she organized the voter registration of disenfranchised African Americans. She founded Equal Rights Advocates, Inc. after law school to promote women’s equality and justice under the law.

Davis is a recipient of the Berkeley Law Trailblazer for Justice Award (2012), Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom Legal Service Award (1996), the American Bar Association Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award (1994), the California Women Lawyers’ Fay Stender Award (1993), the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund’s Legal Services Award (1994), and the Berkeley Law Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award (1994).

She has taught law at Stanford, University of San Francisco, Golden Gate University, and the University of Santa Clara.
