Biography

The Hon. Monica Diaz is a judge for the Superior Court of Fresno County in California. She was appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Kathleen A. Meehan to the Fifth District Court of Appeal on November 2, 2017.

Judge Diaz received her bachelor's degree from California State University, Fresno. She then attended San Joaquin College of Law earning her J.D. in 1998.

Following law school, she began working as an associate at John A. Barker and Associates. She then started working as a deputy public defender for the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office. In 2000 Diaz began working in the District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney. There she was eventually promoted to Chief of the Misdemeanor Unit in 2015 placing her in charge of a team of several attorneys.

Diaz is a Democrat.
