The Hon. Michelle Williams Court is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2011 by former governor Jerry Brown. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Conrad P. Aragon (Ret.).
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Court received her B.A. from Pomona College in 1988. She went on to earn her J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1993.
After graduating from law school, Court joined the law firm of Gilbert, Kelly, Crowley, and Jennett as an associate, where she practiced from 1993 to 1994. Court then became a project attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California for one year. After leaving the ACLU, she joined the law firm of Litt and Marquez where she practiced as an associate from 1995 to 1999.
After a brief stint at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where Court served as a community builder fellow and civil rights specialist for one year, and as a senior associate at the law firm of Milberg LLP where she practiced for two years, she joined the nonprofit, legal aid foundation, Bet Tzedek in 2002.
While at Bet Tzedek, Court served as Vice President and general counsel for the advocacy group from 2002 to 2011.
Her memberships have included the American Law Institute and the LA Law Library's Board of Trustees.
In 2018, Judge Court wrote an article for the Advocate on tips for new attorneys on how to present a case to the jury.
