Biography

The Hon. Michael I. Begert is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in December 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Donna J. Hitchens.

Begert earned a B.A. from the University of Washington in 1985. He then received a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1989.

Begert began his legal career as an associate at Bingham McCutchen in 1989, eventually advancing to partner in 1996. During his tenure at Bingham McCutchen, Begert specialized in class action, product liability, construction defect, and comparative legal market cases.

Begert has served on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and the Asian American Justice Center. He was also an active participant of the Asian Law Caucus and the American Bar Association.

Begert received the Joe Morozumi Award for Exceptional Legal Advocacy from the Asian American Bar Association in 2010.

Begert was born in Tacoma, Washington.

He enjoys spending time with his children, watching the Giants play, and visiting the beach in Santa Cruz, California.

He is registered as a Democrat.
